Heels hero, Elyse Fox

Sad Girls Club was founded in February 2017, by Elyse Fox after releasing a documentary film about her life with depression.

Elyse immediately experienced a wave of young women from all over the world who were seeking mentorship, tips, and resources to guide them through their mental health struggles. Sad Girls Club is both an online platform and in real real-life community committed to bringing girls together who are battling mental illnesses.

It’s imperative within our community we talk about and prioritize Mental Health. It’s no secret we attract high-achieving professional women. This is why we wanted to feature Elyse as our Heels Hero of the Month.

Join us as we feature and interview our Heels Hero, Elyse Fox.

How did you enter into your industry?
I created a documentary that led to the greater conversation about mental health and the start of my company, Sad Girls Club.

Did you always know you wanted to have this career?
Not at all haha

If you could tell yourself one thing when you first started your career, what would it be?
Trust your intuition, don’t trust negative self-talk.

How do you manage imposter syndrome?
I remind myself of everything that I’ve been through to get to where I am. There’s intention in everything and I know that I’m exactly where I need to be, even if doesn’t feel that way in the moment. Self-reflection is important for me to tackle imposter syndrome.

What would you say if you could go back and tell your younger self?

Embrace your creative thoughts.

Where are we likely to find you on the weekends or when you aren't working?
I’m a homebody for sure, I enjoy making bread at home or chillin in my *soon-to-be* garden. Sometimes I’ll pop out for a comedy show. I’m someone who enjoys being home by 8 pm.

Name 3 things you cannot live without.
My skincare, my film camera, a cozy robe.

What are you currently listening to? Podcast? Favorite song that motivates you?
I’ve been revisiting Cortex’s ‘Troupeau Bleu’ & listening to Baby Mamas No Drama and Higher Learning podcast.

How do you get yourself out of a funk when you are having an off day?
I like to feel all of the emotions, when I try to avoid them they inevitably consume me. Getting outside in the sun helps as well as playing with my son.

What would surprise us about yourself?
I was a competitive artist in high school and I also set the record for 3-point shots made in one game.

What is the best advice you have received?
Don’t take pride in multitasking, it’s destroying our productivity, monotasking builds a healthy mind

What are some career highlights and biggest career accomplishments?
Definitely, the partnerships Sad Girls Club has been able to be part of. We’ve been involved with SZA, Chloe x Halle, Bella Hadid, and Drake to name a few. I’ve also presented at Harvard and Yale which still blows my mind!

What is something you are excited to be working on?
I’m excited to become a better leader for my team :) I’m also working on a podcast (launching early 2025!)
