In Her Heels with Ashley Rodriguez
“Passion becomes purpose when you show up, trust the process, and believe you belong.”
We’re excited to spotlight our Chicago Chapter Marketing Director in this week’s “In Her Heels” feature.
What began as a simple love for photography has grown into something much more—shaped by creativity, community, and confidence. Her journey is a reminder that purpose often unfolds through passion and perseverance.
How did you enter into your industry?
I entered the photography industry by following a passion that started small—just taking photos for fun. It began with sessions inside our home, using what we had, and evolved as friends and family encouraged us to turn it into something more. What started as a creative outlet became a business built on heart, growth, and community support.
Did you always know you wanted to have this career?
Honestly, no—I didn’t always know I wanted this to be my career. It started as a hobby, something I loved doing in my free time. But the more I did it, the more I realized how much joy it brought me and others. Over time, that passion turned into purpose, and I knew this was what I was meant to do.
If you could tell yourself one thing when you first started your career, what would it be?
Everything falls into place you just have to trust the process!
How do you manage imposter syndrome?
Imposter syndrome is real, especially in a creative field like photography. But every time I doubt myself, I remind myself why I started! I love capturing moments that matter. I’m learning, growing, and showing up for my clients, and that’s more than enough.
If you could go back and tell your teenage self advice what would it be?
Keep showing up, keep learning, and trust that every step! It shapes you into the creative and strong person you’re meant to be. You belong in every room you walk into.
Where are we likely to find you on the weekends or when you aren't working?
Spending time with family, supporting my nephews at sporting event, and just exploring new places.
Name 3 things you cannot live without.
Camera, Coffee, & a good playlist!
What are you currently listening to? Podcast? Favorite song that motivates you?
I’m currently listening to Karol G! One of the podcasts I love listening to and can relate so much on would be “ Unbreakable Latina”. My all time favorite motivational song has to be “Diva by Beyonce”.
How do you get yourself out of a funk when you are having an off day?
When I’m in a funk, I’ve learned not to ignore it—but to move through it. One of the best ways I reset is by going for a run or hitting the gym. It’s more than just exercise—it’s my way of taking control when life feels heavy. With every rep, every step, I remind myself that I’m capable, strong, and still showing up even when my energy is low.
What would surprise us about yourself?
As a photographer I do also enjoy being behind the camera too!
What is the best advice you have received?
“You set the limits.”
That’s the best advice I’ve ever received—and it’s something I carry with me every single day.
Coming from immigrant parents who arrived in a country they didn’t know, without speaking the language or having much to their name, I saw firsthand what it means to fight for something bigger than yourself. They turned struggle into opportunity and showed me that where you start doesn’t define where you’re headed.
What are some career highlights and biggest career accomplishments?
I will be graduating in June and also excited to see where my military process goes.
What is something you are excited to be working on?
I’m excited to continue working on Heels & Handshakes—a project that’s close to my heart and all about connection, confidence, and creating space for women leadership. The future looks bold.
