Style, Confidence, and First Impressions: What Every Woman in Business Should Know

At our recent event at Bottega Exchange on April 14th, we had the pleasure of hearing from three incredible women who brought both expertise and real-life perspective to the conversation around style and confidence: Michela Caprara (Moderator), Andrea Singer, and Ebony Rice.

Together, they explored how the way we present ourselves goes far beyond fashion. It shapes how we feel, how we show up, and how others perceive us in both personal and professional spaces.

Style as a tool for confidence

Andrea Singer, a board certified family nurse practitioner and founder of The Pediatric Collective, shared a powerful story from her time working in healthcare.

Coming from an environment where everyone wore the same scrubs, she realized how difficult it was to stand out and be recognized in her role. It was not until she made small but intentional changes, like wearing her white coat or transitioning into business attire, that she noticed a shift in how others perceived her.

Patients and families began to immediately recognize her authority and expertise.

Her message was clear.
What you wear can influence how others see you and how you see yourself.

Finding your personal style

Ebony Rice, a stylist and entrepreneur known for her bold and expressive approach to fashion, spoke about the importance of self discovery when it comes to style.

She shared how she once dressed in ways that did not reflect who she truly was, often choosing outfits that helped her blend in rather than stand out. That experience led her to explore styling more deeply, not just for aesthetics but for identity.

Today, she encourages women to:

  • Dress with intention

  • Embrace what makes them feel confident

  • Use fashion as a form of self expression

As Ebony put it, your style is part of your brand. It is often the first introduction people have to who you are.

The power of first impressions

Throughout the discussion, Michela Caprara guided the conversation toward a key theme. First impressions happen quickly, and style plays a major role in shaping them.

From clothing and color choices to posture and overall presentation, every detail sends a message.

The panel highlighted that while skills and experience matter, how you present yourself can influence opportunities, confidence, and even career growth.

Simple ways to elevate your style

The panelists also shared practical tips that anyone can start applying right away:

  • Focus on fit. Tailored clothing can instantly elevate your look and confidence

  • Choose the right colors. Wearing colors that complement your skin tone can make you look more energized and approachable

  • Wear what you love. If you do not feel good in it, it shows

  • Pay attention to details. Wrinkle free clothing, clean lines, and thoughtful accessories go a long way

Staying authentic while growing

One of the most important takeaways from the conversation was the idea of balancing authenticity with growth.

You do not have to lose your personality to look polished or professional. Instead, the goal is to align your personal style with the direction you are going.

As the panel emphasized, style should evolve with you, not limit you.

Final thoughts

This conversation was a reminder that style is not about following trends or fitting into a box. It is about using what you wear as a tool to support your confidence, reflect your identity, and help you show up fully in every space you enter.

Whether you are stepping into a new role, building your brand, or simply wanting to feel more like yourself, small and intentional changes can make a meaningful difference.

If this conversation sparked something in you, you’re not alone. These are the kinds of discussions we love creating space for. Honest, empowering, and designed to help you grow both personally and professionally.
